A 7-night cruise through the Greek Isles is supposed to be about ancient ruins and beautiful beaches, not technical problems. But for guests currently sailing on the Celebrity Infinity, their itinerary has taken an unexpected turn. A power outage that occurred while the ship was docked in a Turkish port has led to a multi-day delay and a significant change to the planned schedule.
The situation began on Monday, July 7, 2025, while the Celebrity Infinity was docked in the port of Kusadasi, Turkey. According to passengers onboard, the 2,170-guest ship experienced a small electrical fire which resulted in a power outage that lasted for several hours. While the exact location of the fire wasn’t specified, these types of issues most often occur in engine rooms near electrical equipment.

For those on the ship, the immediate effects were significant. With no power, there were no announcements from the crew and, most uncomfortably, no air conditioning. With the temperature in Kusadasi hitting 91 degrees Fahrenheit that day, the lack of A/C was the biggest complaint found on cruise forums.
Crew Praised During Difficult Situation
Despite the challenging conditions, many guests have been quick to praise the shipโs crew for how they’ve handled the situation. One guest who was ashore when the outage happened shared their perspective after returning to the ship.
“I have to shout out the crew on this ship as they fielded concerns for all aboard,” the guest shared early in the morning on July 8. “No power meant no communications, power to rooms, AC, Delayed Shows, Delayed Meals (kitchens literally went into a near total standstill), and obviously disappointed guests.” They added, “It was a very hot day in Turkey today as well, so that added to the pressure.”

Itinerary Changes and an Extended Stay
As of the time of this report, it’s unclear if all power has been fully restored, but the initial fire was put out quickly. To allow for necessary repairs, the ship’s visit in Kusadasi has been extended significantly. Originally scheduled to depart at 9:00 p.m. on July 7, cruise tracking data shows the ship still docked. According to guests, the plan is to remain in port until the late afternoon of Wednesday, July 9, to ensure all systems are working properly.
As a result, the 7-night itinerary has been altered. The planned calls in Mykonos on July 8 and Kavala on July 9 are no longer possible. However, passengers have reported that the crew is trying to rework the schedule to replace the sea day on July 11 with a stop in Mykonos, which is welcome news for many. For now, the call in Thessaloniki on July 10 and the final disembarkation in Athens on July 12 are expected to proceed as planned.

The Official Word and What Comes Next
When asked for a comment, a spokesperson for Royal Caribbean Group, Celebrity’s parent company, gave a brief statement: โOur team is addressing a technical issue. We have communicated with our guests directly.โ
This plan, of course, depends on how smoothly the repairs go. If the damage is more extensive than it first appeared, the schedule could change again. Guests booked on the next sailing out of Athens on July 12 will want to keep an eye out for any official updates from Celebrity Cruises.
Technical issues like this, while disruptive, are something ship crews are highly trained to handle. Just last week, Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas had an overnight power outage that was resolved quickly, with only a minor delay to the next sailing. The expectation is that the skilled crew on Celebrity Infinity will have the ship fully operational and back on its revised schedule shortly.
